Access to a sustainable, fluid and high-performance platform
The car parks at Marseille Provence Airport now serve a much broader purpose than simply providing parking. At the crossroads of environmental, economic and customer experience issues, they are becoming concrete levers for transforming the airport model.
With nearly half of the airport's indirect emissions linked to journeys to the terminals, decarbonising access is a strategic priority. Marseille Provence Airport is therefore rethinking its offerings to reduce individual car use, while continuing to respond effectively to the needs of regular and occasional travellers.
Limiting free drop-off time (20 minutes) aims to improve traffic flow while encouraging more sustainable modes of transport. Marseille Provence Airport is also supporting the evolution of mobility by facilitating intermodality. The L91 line, operated by the Metropolis and recently upgraded for Marseille residents, and the cable link project currently under study, are good alternatives to private car use.
At the same time, car parks are gradually becoming producers of renewable energy, with the deployment since 2024 of photovoltaic shade structures, identified as a key lever in Marseille Provence Airport's decarbonisation strategy. The electricity produced is consumed on site, reducing the need to draw on the energy grids. This investment aims to strengthen the platform's energy independence and reduce its dependence on energy price fluctuations.
Beyond their functional role, car parks are also a pillar of the revenue diversification strategy. They contribute significantly to non-aeronautical revenue, which accounted for 49% of the platform's total turnover in the first half of 2025. This segment includes commercial and real estate activities, as well as car parks, which are identified as a major growth driver.
This positioning is part of an overall vision: ‘Making parking a value-added service area, serving both the airport and its surrounding area,’ explains Véronique Lemée-Alexandre, Head of Non-Aeronautical Activities Development. ‘It is a key lever for reducing environmental impact and enhancing the passenger experience,’ she summarises.
