The efforts undertaken over the past several years to make Marseille Provence Airport (AMP) a model in the industry bore fruit in 2024. In 2025, we will continue to focus on improving  the quality of the routes offered to the region and passengers, enhancing the customer experience and advancing the energy transition, keeping us on course towards our objectives for 2030,” Julien Coffinier, Chairman of the Executive Board of AMP.

Traffic

In 2024, Marseille Provence Airport consolidated its position as France’s second-largest regional airport, welcoming 11,167,485 passengers (+3.4% vs. 2023). At the same time, commercial aircraft movements (excluding cargo) remained almost unchanged (88,178, +0.3%). This difference is explained by a higher average number of passengers per flight (126 in 2024), due both to the use of aircraft with larger capacities and to an increase in load factors, which rose to 79.4% (+1 point).

This growth was driven primarily by international traffic (+5% vs. 2023), with 7,780,863 passengers travelling to/from the Mediterranean region, European capitals and on long-haul routes to North America, the Indian Ocean, the Middle East, and, since this year, Asia. New destinations such as Stockholm, Wroclaw and Shanghai have also helped attract more visitors to the region.

As for cargo, 59,587 tonnes of freight were handled in 2024, an increase of 8.1% compared with 2023. This overall growth was reflected in a 4.1% relative rise in daytime cargo movements, which reached 6,567.

Infrastructure: Terminal 1

The highlight of 2024 was the opening of the new Terminal 1 in June, which was warmly received by travellers, earning an overall score of 3.84 out of 5 in the second half of the year. This result comes from the latest ASQ (Airport Service Quality) satisfaction surveys, conducted as part of the global program led by ACI (Airports Council International), which brings together 365 airports worldwide. The most significant improvement in 2024 was in boarding lounge comfort, while ease of going through security screening received the highest score. Shops and restaurants at Terminal 1 also achieved their best-ever ratings.

The transformation will continue this year with the spring opening of a new dining area near the departure lounges, followed by the launch of a new international lounge.

Commitments

As an active contributor to the region’s vitality, AMP will host its second annual employment forum in the new Terminal 1 on February 27th. It will be orgainsed in coordination with the airport’s partners in order to prepare for the summer season, with nearly one hundred job opportunities on offer.

Mindful of its environmental impact, AMP continued its decarbonisation efforts in 2024 with several initiatives to modernise its infrastructure. Notably, the new P4 car park was brought into service, equipped with photovoltaic panels that supply 10% of its annual energy needs. In 2025, the completion of the P3 car park will build on this achievement.

Other projects have also been confirmed to further stregthen this committment, including a European Union loan to electrify the tarmac and two agreements signed with TotalEnergies and H2V/Hy2gen to develop local SAF and e-SAF production around the Étang de Berre.
