OUR GOAL: SETTING THE PACE OF RESPONSIBLE
DEVELOPMENT
"Air traffic was heavily impacted by the Covid crisis in 2020, with MPA registering its biggest ever
drop in passenger traffic (almost 70%). Business has since been picking up, but many aspects
of air transport in general, and airport management in particular, have been changed forever.
Environmental, biosecurity mesures and social challenges are henceforth inextricably woven
into the future development of our industry.
The crisis has turned out to be a fundamental accelerator of change; now airports must be
vectors of transformation.
Marseille Provence Airport was already active. Building on its established commitment to decarbonation, the airport rapidly restarted to transform its structure and activities into a more
sustainable and responsible business model.
We aim to serve as a model of virtuous airport development and set the pace in France and
Europe. We are targeting Net Zero Carbon approach before 2030 for our direct CO2 emissions - the ones over which we have full control (Scopes 1 and 2). But we do not intend to stop
there, as they only account for 2% of the airport’s total emissions. Scope 3 emissions (98%) are
generated by our partners", Philippe Bernand, Marseille Provence Airport CEO.
